Another California Connection
Posted on: 2010-06-02
We've made another green connection in the Golden State!
CalFinder Solar, a U.S. nationwide service for home solar power contractors and information recently interviewed us about the work we are doing to store carbon and restore habitat with our newly created forests in Canada. This is another great California connection for us and they were pleasantly surprised to hear that we already had a partnership with The Historic Requa Inn in their home state!
Not only did the process lead to a wonderfully written article on our operation, but it also opened some doors for ways we can work together in the future to promote and provide information on home solar and enhance our “reduce first” message.
Stay tuned for updates in the months to come and in the meantime check out the entertaining and informative story that is posted on their blog.

We've Gone Hybrid
Posted on: 2010-05-11
The Carbon Farmer is proud to announce that we now own a 2009 Civic Hybrid and we’ll be using it for all of our business needs.
We bought the car from Millwoods Honda in Edmonton last week and are thoroughly enjoying the ride, handling, and of course reduced fuel use and emissions. We are the first ones in our family to purchase a hybrid and everyone who has “test driven” it so far is very impressed too. We may have even tempted a few pick-up truck drivers to take the plunge!
With Rebecca travelling across the Peace River School Division for her role as a social worker and the company recently taking on a contract with the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre (MCCAC) we were in need of a second vehicle. Choosing the 2009 Civic Hybrid fits perfectly with our “reduce first” mantra because it has an amazing fuel mileage rating of 4.3 litres per 100 kilometres on the highway and 4.7 litres per 100 kilometres for city driving. Perhaps more important than the fuel mileage figures are the emissions rating of Tier 2 Bin 2. This means that our 2009 Civic Hybrid is almost a zero emissions vehicle! Plus like the other Honda products we have, the quality and safety of our new car will allow us to rest easy that we will be there for our clients when they need us.
There are still a few 2009 Civic Hybrids available and Millwoods Honda has let us know that the 2010 Honda Insight has just received a $4000.00 cash incentive from Honda Canada. With the incentive, the starting price of an Insight LX is down to $21,470, making the Honda Insight the most affordable Honda Hybrid ever!
Contact Millwoods Honda for more details and remember that they also have us plant and care for a tree on behalf of every vehicle sold as part of their Create a Forest Event. When on their Partners Page be sure to take a look at the listing for Certificate 308!
Millwoods Honda Extends their Create A Forest Event!
Posted on: 2010-02-04
After a successful response last month, Millwoods Honda will continue to have a tree planted and cared for in recognition of each new and used car they sell.
This is great news for Honda customers in Edmonton, Alberta and for the environment we all share! In January 2010 alone the positive impacts of the partnership were impressive and with the recent extension these benefits will continue to grow in the months to come.
Thanks to our Partnership, as of February 4, 2010 Millwoods Honda has supported:
-
the planting and care of 45 trees;
-
the creation of over 284 square meters of forest;
-
the offseting of 15,000 kilograms of CO2eq emissions; and
-
reducing emissions equivalent to the burning of more than 6355 litres of gasoline.
We are very thankful for the efforts of the Millwoods Honda management and staff and all they have done to make this initiative possible and successful. Their choice to extend their Create A Forest Event speaks to their continued dedication to the environment and leadership as a premier eco-dealership.
