Our Forests
The Carbon Farmer Inc. truly cares for each of our trees and the forests that they are a part of. We want to maintain the confidence of Our Offsetters by continuing to have healthy forests, but we have much more invested into these forests than the business itself. For us, each of the forests we create also represents a tonne of environmental benefits for our world, including contributions to our community through our Community Fund, the establishment of a green economy and most importantly an opportunity for us and our children to live with and honour the land, which has been part of our family for generations. Our hope is that Our Forests will be sustained long after we're gone. We have put our sweat, tears, hopes and dreams into Our Forests and we want to share them with you.
Each of Our Forests will be unique because of their location, age and the species they contain. After initially planting a base of spruce, lodgepole pine or aspen we may try to incorporate different species into some of Our Forests, while ensuring to the best of our abilities that the carbon sequestration potential of the stand is maintained. When possible we will also let natural succession of the forest take over and allow vegetation to establish itself. This will help create a diverse and dynamic forest that will hopefully be representative of the original boreal ecosystem that once stood there. It will also lead to increased biodiversity beyond plant life, as insects, mammals and birds make themselves at home. This diversity is intrinsically important and will help protect Our Forests in times of harsh conditions.
Our Forests will be planted to proper specifications and cared for using environmentally sound techniques. They will only be grown on land that is unable to produce crops efficiently and/or has high potential for habitat restoration.
We’ve completed general CO2 Storage Assessments for the three boreal species we plan to plant and we will also have a specific assessment available for each of Our Forests. To add transparency and to allow you to learn about our specific forests, we have included the details for each of them on our website, as well as our Operations Reports and a Photo Gallery so you can see for yourself how the forest has progressed.
We are currently selling Carbon Plus Credits from Dad's Forest, but more forests are on the way soon, so keep checking this section of our website for updates.
