What personal information is collected by The Carbon Farmer Inc.?

The Carbon Farmer Inc. collects personal contact information if Carbon Plus Credits are purchased from the company or this web site. We collect the following information from our purchasers:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Email Address
  • Phone Number
  • Screen Name (This name will appear beside the Carbon Plus Credits that have been purchased, as listed on Our Offsetters web page. This is a tracking feature The Carbon Farmer Inc. provides to its customers so they know that the credits they purchased will not be resold. The screen name is chosen by the purchaser and can be a pseudonym.  They are also given the option of having their screen name appear as “Anonymous.”)
  • Recipient’s Name (If the purchaser is giving the Carbon Plus Credit(s) as a gift, the purchaser will be asked to provide the name of the recipient as they want it to appear on the Certificate of Purchase. It is important to note that the purchaser, not the gift recipient, remains bound by the terms and conditions of the Carbon Plus Credit Purchase Agreement. If the purchaser is not giving the Carbon Plus Credit(s) as a gift, the purchaser’s name will be listed as the recipient on the Certificate of Purchase.)

The Carbon Farmer Inc. uses Awstats and Webalizer tracking utilities on our web site. Information such as the user’s IP addresses, browser type, Internet service provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, platform type, date/time stamp, and number of clicks is collected. IP addresses, etc., are not linked to personally identifiable information.

How does The Carbon Farmer Inc. use this information?

The main reasons The Carbon Farmer Inc. collects personal information are:

  • To complete a sale or transaction with a purchaser
  • To deliver products, Certificates of Purchase, and copies of Agreements to our purchasers

The Carbon Farmer Inc. also uses personal information for other, secondary reasons, including:

  • Customer service
  • Records management
  • To send our annual offset anniversary emails to those purchasers who choose this service
  • To send our email newsletters to those purchasers who choose this service

We will also disclose personal information if we are required by law to do so.

Like most standard website servers, The Carbon Farmer Inc. tracks and stores web statistics for the analysis of general web traffic. This information is used to analyze trends, administer the site, track visitor movement in the aggregate, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use.

The Carbon Farmer Inc. does not provide personal contact information to any third party for the purposes of marketing and commercialization.

How does The Carbon Farmer Inc. obtain consent for collecting personal information?

When The Carbon Farmer Inc. is provided with personal information to complete a transaction, place an order, and/or arrange for a delivery, we assume the purchaser consents to our collecting it and using it for that specific reason only. 

How can a purchaser opt out?

In certain cases a purchaser can opt out (decline) from providing the following personal information and/or having their personal information used in this particular manner:

  • Screen Name – A screen name must be provided in the Electronic Order Form, but each purchaser is given the opportunity to use an unidentifiable pseudonym or be listed as “Anonymous.”
  • Annual Reminder Email – At the bottom of the Electronic Order Form is an option for the purchaser to receive an annual email from The Carbon Farmer Inc. to remind them of their offset anniversary.  The purchaser may uncheck this option if they so choose.  As stated on the Electronic Order Form, the purchaser can also be removed from this service at any time by contacting The Carbon Farmer Inc. via email at info@thecarbonfarmer.ca
  • Email Newsletter - At the bottom of the Electronic Order Form is an option for the purchaser to receive email newsletters from The Carbon Farmer Inc. to provide updates to them about our operations. The purchaser may uncheck this option if they so choose. As stated on the Electronic Order Form, the purchaser can also be removed from this service at any time by contacting The Carbon Farmer Inc. via email at info@thecarbonfarmer.ca
